Getting an artist on the phone often is much harder than actually interviewing one. Usually it takes two or three tries to actually get them on the phone, and then there’s the inevitable spotty cell phone service, which adds an extra layer of tension to an already awkward discussion between two people who know their plumber better than each other.
And of course it was no different with Michael Franti, the political folk, hip-hop, reggae singer/songwriter headlining All Good next weekend. After a five-minute delay, I’m finally on the phone with Franti’

POINT — Robots are Awesome
June 30, 2008
Robots are awesome. I mean, it should be obvious. They are metal and cool. Sure, sometimes they turn on us, their not-always-benevolent masters, but for the most part they amuse us with their desire to be like us.
Let’s

New Moleskin In, Fresh Ideas Out
Thu, July 3, 2008 @ 4:12PM
I love Moleskin journals. I haven't used any other kind since I bought my first one several years ago. My reasons for the Moleskin love are many, including the simple design, the rich history ("A Moveable Feast" and "The Sun Also Rises" were allegedly written on Moleskins), the durability, and the ease to which you can personalize them. At any given time, I have three different Moleskins on my person (one in my pocket, another dayplanning one and another one for work and larger musings). And of course, Lupe Fiasco loves them. My girlfriend just got me a new one, with Steampunk etchings on the front cover. I've only recently begun compartmentalizing my journals into various uses, and it's enhanced my journaling greatly. So, I'm looking for some

The Iron Hunt by Marjorie M. Liu
Tue, July 1, 2008 @ 9:13AM
June is the official start of summer, so I'm kicking off the season with a new book a week that you should be sticking in a beach bag to take on vacation, or just relaxing with in the backyard along with a glass of sweet tea. This week's is a paranormal offering. Be sure to check back every Monday for a new featured book! New York Time bestselling author Marjorie M. Liu gives a new spin on the paranormal genre in "The Iron Hunt." Maxine Kiss is the most recent Hunter in a long line of women who fight the forces of darkness. The power is passed down generation to generation through mystical tatoos that make the wearer invulnerable and can come alive in the form of small creatures that aid in the fight. This is the way it has been for all of the Kiss women and one day the tattoos will leave Maxine and attach themselves to her own daughter - leaving her powerless in the face of her enemies. Maxine's lived a lonely existance after her mother's passing. But s

Into The End...
Thu, June 12, 2008 @ 10:23AM
Into The End: I was born in Oxford but grew up in Marietta, Why Douglas Adams will always speak for me (even in death), or Why I haven't slept since January 2005 There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened. - Douglas Adams I was born in Wheeling, West Virginia at four o’clock in the morning on September 10th, 1984. I moved to Cincinnati when I was two and then moved to Martins Ferry, Ohio at 5. At 18, I went away to college for my first year, came back home over the summer, and then moved my family to Parkersburg, West Virginia. In the fall I returned to Oxford to finish college, lived a summer in London, England, and then spent a y

college music flashback
Fri, June 27, 2008 @ 6:58PM
After converting all music I own into itunes capable mp3, i glanced through all the music (there was a lot) and picked out a few old cd's to burn again for use in my truck. Since not all vehicles has that lovely aux. input, and i ran my iTrip through the washer, i have been using good ol' CDs lately. anyway, enough of my lead, here are the old CD's I determined were worth having hard copies of again. These were all from high school and college I guess. 1. PJ Harvey — Is This Desire? People like "Dry" or "Rid of Me", but i think "Desire" is the best work she's ever put out. and that is saying something. It's easily one of the sexiest album ever made, and the driving bass lines carry the album and set such an solid mood, listening is almost an experience in itself. 2. The Flaming Lips — The Soft Bulletin I know, I know. But I already have thirty copies of &q
